A 31% Budget Increase. Did you get a raise?

Transparent Payson was born from a desire that fiscal responsibility be imposed on the Town of Payson.  Recently the Town has proposed a thirty-one percent  (31%) budget increase.  The current budget is $59 million.  The proposed budget is over $77 million.  A budget needs to be adjusted for inflation.  As of May 10th, the current rate of inflation is below 5%.

The Town increased rates for services earlier this year.  There is a Special Meeting of the Town Council on June 14th at 3:00 p.m.  The proposed ordinance to be discussed is for a rate increase on property taxes.  To the Town’s credit, this is a first reading and not an “emergency ordinance” as has been used in the past.

While not the direct purview of our group, this proposed increase confirms that fiscal responsibility needs to be maintained by the citizens of Payson.

To paraphrase Will Rogers,

The only difference between death and taxes is that death doesn’t get worse every time Congress Town Council meets.  Will Rogers

Oversight is the responsibility of the voter.

    • Trail update and appearance on KMOG
The trial was completed last Friday, the 19th.  Transparent Payson has always viewed the matter as a question of law, which results in a slightly different trial than many may be familiar with in a civil setting. There was no discovery, no experts, […]

We can use your continued support.  Please donate. To finance the Town’s list of projects Town Council increased the TPT/Sales tax.  That tax becomes effective on May 1st.  The rate will be 10.48%.  Some people tithe.  The TPT/ Sales tax rate […]
    • A Court Date Has Been Set With the Town of Payson.
Despite reports in “newspapers” and statements from pundits, including local elected officials, asserting otherwise, the case of Transparent Payson vs. The Town of Payson has not been resolved.  A court date has been set for a bench […]
    • Donation fun and Varxity resolution.
Varxity was part of the tri-party agreement with the Town of Payson (TOP) for the Recreation Center/Hockey Rinks/Pool.  After 401 and 402 passed, the TOP withdrew from the agreement.  There may have been a mixup on the signatures required to make it […]
    • Your money, NOT your vote.
Thank you, KMOG and former Payson Mayor Kenneth Murphy, for the opportunity to discuss the issues with current Mayor Higgins on the KMOG forum on December 29th.  We always appreciate the opportunity to be part of the KMOG discussion.  It was a great […]
    • Did the Mayor call voters a “mob?”
A quick year-end update.  We are very hopeful that everyone has a wonderful holiday season. The court case against the Town moves at a glacial pace.  The last court hearing was November 30th.  There is little to report on that front.  That sounds […]
